What is the Community Assistance Program?
The Community Assistance Program (CAP) is run by the Office of Governmental and Community Affairs and the Dean of Students Office. The purpose of CAP is to enhance the relationship between the wider community and Boston College’s on- and off-campus students.
The Off Campus Student Community Liaison, Steve Montgomery, leads the CAP by responding to concerns and complaints in the community. The liaison observes areas where large numbers of off-campus student live on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights as well as holidays and other high activity dates. Though the liaison is not a law enforcement official, the liaison does respond to disturbance calls and works closely with neighbors as well as the Boston Police and the Boston College Police to maintain a safe, respectful neighborhood.
The liaison seeks to diffuse tensions and resolve issues that might arise between students and neighbors. When students are addressed, a report is submitted to the Dean of Students Office for review and possible University disciplinary action. The liaison is often the administrator if community service sanctions are issued for students.
The Off Campus Student Community Liaison is also an advocate for students who face challenges living off-campus. Students needing advice on interacting with Inspectional Services Department, landlords, and neighbors should feel free to contact the CAP program at 617-552-6028.
